Early Byzantine and "Franks"

Battle of Volturnus (aka Casilinum) 554 AD : Early Byzantine vs "Franks"  - not included in historical enemies ?

A question - not a statement; and looking for advice/information.  My understanding is that the Byzantine army, led by Narses was "Early". The "Franks" have been called different names in different accounts, eg Franks, Alamanni, Germans. Possibly Merovingian Franks (if so then that list has no option to dismount cavalry).

IIRC the army was basically Alamanni subjects.
