Player Discussion / The MeG Podcast Season 4, Episode 7 - Terrain
« on: May 31, 2024, 01:44:48 PM »
The MeG Podcast team with a special guest discuss terrain, how it works in MeG and how we represent it on the table.

The usual team of Richard Jeffrey-Cook, Matt Haywood and Nik Gaukroger were joined by Paul Stovell to have a wide ranging conversation about terrain in MeG.

The episode can be found at - https://themegpodcast.podbean.com/e/the-meg-podcast-series-4-episode-7-terrain/

Hopefully this discussion is informative and gets players thinking about how terrain works and is used in MeG, as well as how we represent it on the table.

As always, feedback and suggestions for further podcasts are very welcome

Any more discerning players joining us?

Short answer no - but there is an item in the PDF Errata topic that needs to be tweaked about this so thanks for the reminder  8)

Per QRS - "vs, non-charging Cv, Cm, or Ch who shot" (my emphasis).

If the Cv/Cm/Ch are not charging - i.e. have not declared a charge - then the +1 claim applies if they shoot.

Point 6 in the appendix description just says when they can shoot, it does not cover combat claims.

Pacto / Re: What is the exact meaning of sub-Black?

Apologies, was thinking Maximus/Magna  :P

In pacto only Skulls and S results cause slowing. Page 83 of the Pacto rules.

Hmm looking at the quote in the first post I think I might have been doing this wrong. I interpreted "Slowing effect only" as being that a Wound has a casualty and a slowing effect - and that if your dice was sub-Black then the wound would not do the casualty effect but would still do the slowing.

So to be clear if your shooting has two subtractions (so it starts at White then is reduced to Black and then to "sub-Black") does this mean:-

a) you have two chances out of six to get a slowing effect (the S and the Wound which only counts as a S)

b) you have one chance out of six to get a slowing effect (the S and the Wound counts for nothing)

We play your option a.  We could be equally wrong however.

You are doing it correctly.

Not an unreasonable question actually.

Upcoming MeG Podcast klaxon ... the subject of the next episode will be TERRAIN.

So once again we're asking our listeners, and possible listeners, for any questions and thoughts they may have for us to tackle, or attempt to tackle 😜 We will leave any specifics up to you, all that we ask is that they are related to terrain.

Feel free to post something here, or to drop me an email at nikgaukroger@blueyonder.co.uk

Recording is planned for next Thursday, so before then please.

I think a (non ascii) diagram would help.

Nope, you got it right.

Think I've only seen this once or maybe twice - the chargers miss their target due to a base being shot away  :P

Quite. I'm a bit puzzled that it could be seen a cheesy.

FIGURES

If you have UGs with mixed troops within them, such as Knights and Sergeants, please ensure that the figures you are using do distinguish between them in such a way that your opponent can see the difference. A number of lists even mention in notes that in such mixed formations the troops must be "easily distinguished". Obviously the figures for the different types should also be historically plausible for what they represent (within our usual "don't take the piss" approach).
