Modelling and Eye Candy / Re: Han Chinese

I'm not surprised.  Looking at Xiongnu and Han on paper, it doesn't look like a great matchup for the nomads.

They look great.  Have you had them out against the Xiongnu yet?

Nice.  What does your list look like?

Single base additions to TuGs revised
These do not work in practice so we are removing them and finding another way
1. English Longbows will be given a ME option to represent a high % of MAA intermingled.
2. Chinese types revert to simply two different ranks of troops.

Nikeforian menavltoi are another FWIW.

Might be useful if people could flag lists with similar single base additions. Think we have them all, but with so many lists ...

Viking berserkers?

Tournament Discussion / Re: Game Length at Britcon

Of course we would not need to start quite so early on Sunday as there are only 2 games not the three on Saturday.
Personally, as I was playing a "boring" army (I read that as slow-moving as Nik likes to race around a lot) I would have welcomed the extra 15 minutes in several of my games.

Hey, my army was as ploddy as any other out there  ;D and all 6 of my games, win or lose (mostly the latter), finished comfortably within the 3 hours.

Not to hijack the thread, but having had 6 comp games with the late English, what are your thoughts on those armies?

Nice report.  So having played a few games, what's your assessment on the bolt-shooters?

Rules Queries / Re: Ambush - is it 1 UG per card?
« on: July 15, 2019, 04:46:24 PM »
I read these rules for the first time just the other day and had a couple of additional questions.  On this question I read the rules as 1 per card.  In future clarries it might be interesting to have more, fwiw.

My two questions though are:
- what does line 7 mean?  I think it's that when you put your generals down, you say which general owns the ambush card (like which general owns which UGs).  Is that correct?
- do you use a larger card when you are playing in 25mm?  what should its dimensions be?

I'm looking forward to it.  I'm bringing 28mm Sassanids, and Will is loaning me a 15mm Sassanid army for the rest of the tournament.

A local painted a gorgeous 28mm New Kingdom Egyptian army.  Lots of chariots look cool.  I think he had about 20 but it's been a long time since we've seen it out on the table.

I'm waiting for some tufts to finish off the basing (I rebased a bunch of stuff for this) and then I'll post up some pics in the eye candy forum.

Oh man, Simon's suit is the best!  Well done.  Hopefully he got some kind of trophy for that.

List Queries / Re: Eastern Han volunteer army question
« on: June 30, 2019, 12:41:38 AM »

I'm interested in building this but am curious about what some of the troop types are actually supposed to be.  I've been doing some research online and not getting a lot of clarity beyond the chinese army troops (regulars, whether volunteer or standing army).  Any recommendations on good sources describing the army?

What are dependent state cavalry?  Are these chinese or surrounding peoples (steppe peoples perhaps)?

How about the horse archers?

Thanks for the detailed report.

I still have one question - this is a good analysis of when most of your army is composed of these.  I'm wondering about when you've got just one or two units.

And now I think of it one other question - it strikes me these are probably better in units of 6 than 4, but would like to hear from experience about that.

What do folks think of this list?  I'll not post any of my rationale for putting it together to leave all input open.  And welcome.

I wonder whether there should be more overall cavalry in the list?  Playing around with making an all mounted army at 10k you use almost all of it.  It doesn't leave much flexibility.  Perhaps that's the way it should be, but just passing on the observation.
