I am travelling in Greece during this period And would welcome the opportunity to play.

A) would anyone be able to loan me an army (say Alex Mac)

B) not wishing to highjack this thread, would anyone recommend which islands to go on to from Ios (staying 3 days to the 23rd) heading north towards Athens on the 28th? I have 5 nights to plan. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, that was a great competition. My thanks to all the organisers for all their efforts

Im travelling in October. I'm not sure if I will be back in time.

If I am, I may be available if you need an additional player to make it even.

Great thanks. Thinking about it I'm pleased it would be ruled this way although some rules lawyers wouldn't be happy with mere implications

Rules Queries and Clarifications / A weird MF1 situation
September 20, 2021, 05:11:29 PM
something that cropped up in a recent game:

a) two TUGs, 3 bases wide fighting same enemy unit frontally (i.e. contiguously). The middle file of one of the TuGs is wiped out, leaving a gap in the line.

Can the other TuG use a MF1 to plug that gap, thereby inter-mingling with the friendly unit.

I see no reason why not but it feels a bit odd.

b) Subsidiary question, if the above is correct

I believe there is no movement distance restriction for a MF1. Does this mean that a base could be teleported along the battleline to provide an overlap support for the friendly TuG. Now that would be weird!

A theoretical question popped into my mind -

A foot TuG fights a unit and hits its target in in the flank, say at a 90 degree angle. The target is fighting with no other enemy. The TuG breaks...

How does the target pursue? Some ideas are

a) free turn and full move pursuit
b) it wheels

Does the defender have any options?

An unlikely event but could happen if the attacker is already close to breaking.  Also I can see this situation arising with kiels

how? what do you envisage getting harder about it?

The Ps will get in the way of your own fighting troops

P114 says that a suG can be displaced to make room for a TuG

The clarifications state that this is limited to be 1 MU, 'as to be consistent with the universal rule (p80, 16).

a)I don't think it goes against the universal rules if during the movement phase SuGs can be displaced by more than 1MU. I agree that it is more consistent but the rules were written to allow a displacement of more than 1 MU

b) If this clarification stands, From a game play perspective, it will often be really, really fiddly to measure, as we will have to measure a TuG moving AND a SuG moving. At times this move may have to be simultaneous - remember the SuG can be pretty much displaced in any direction.

I can envisage lots of testy arguments about the measuring when it is a near thing - if I can't do it this way, I'll do it that way involving lots of careful measurement and really slowing down the game.

I agree that it is weird to see SuGs been teleported around the battlefield but it just speeds things up. I know this was Simon's original intention and most players do this.

I consider this 'clarification' to be a significant change in rules. It will make psioli screens very difficult to employ, particularly ahead of pikes

Ah, clarications. More to read! Thanks

If a unit is broken due to a charge and shoot, when does it break?

A) does it break immediately I.e before the charge move is made
B) does the charger make contact, then the unit break after the first round of impact. Obviously the unit won't fight at impact

It makes a difference to where the charging unit will end up

The sequence of events would suggest b, but I'm not certain

So my Nike could go from:

Sp sp bw bw
Sp sp bw bw

To:

Bw bw sp sp
Bw bw sp sp

That was my interpretation but it looks weird!

Rules Queries and Clarifications / Redressing ranks
August 15, 2021, 12:30:23 PM
When redressing ranks, can an element change position anywhere within a UG or just within the file.

Interesting. Does this deserve a clarification from the Simaster?
