Modelling and Eye Candy / Magna Asiatic Successor
August 16, 2025, 08:56:45 PM
Hi,

Started a new project for 2025, Magna Asiatic Successor for MeG.  I've sold off my entire Ancients collections three times in the past but began to paint some lovely Xyston figures for a chap recently and well, let's just say, I was hooked.  Wonderful castings.  I can't quite believe I've been painting for almost 50 years and hadn't painted them before.

When I start a new project I always start with camps first followed by Generals and Commanders.  I find it distracting in the process to leave them until later.

Tents and camping stuff are Baueda.  Figures are Xyston.

Thanks for the reply and opinions.

Early (Late) Saka probably used partial horse armour from what I've been led to believe.

Modelling and Eye Candy / Later Saka

Hi,

I am mulling over the idea of a Magna Late Saka force, using Xyston miniatures as an unusual force.

I'd love opinions on these ideas.

Considering using probably ANC20068 - Persian Satrapal Guard as Saka Nobles and followers, maybe with the odd figure from perhaps ANC20105 - Kappadokian Noble Cavalry and even ANC20254 - Successor Cataphract Cavalry.

As Parthians were originally the Parni, a Saka clan I was thinking of using a combination of ANC20055 - Parthyaian Horse Archers, ANC20276 - Parthian Horse Archers and ANC20069 - Persian Colonist Cavalry, ANC20086 - Persian Colonist Cavalry with Fillets and ANC20045 - Thracian Getic Horse Archers.

For the infantry foot archers would be ANC20337 - Saka Archers and ANC20280 - Parthian Dismounted Archers, with foot spearmen perhaps ANC20288 - Armenian Hillmen with Javelins and slingers ANC20289 - Armenian Hillmen with Slings.

Do my suggestions sound feasible?  All opinions welcome.

Cheers,

Kev
