Player Discussion / Re: Dismountable

OK - so when mounted and prior to dismounting, infantry with 'dismountable' characteristics move as Fomed Cavalry. Is that Fomed Loose Cavalry? Or does this depend on the dismounted foot type.

Formed can be close, loose, flexible or skirmishers.

I understand the formed bit, but what about the density of the TUG when mounted.

I may have misinterpreted something here.

Thanks Peter

Thanks for responses all,

I can happily continue to get my weekend fix of painting and basing Immortals now.

My Achaemenid Persians are currently based for DBX ie on 40x40 and with 4 spearmen with spear and pavisse in front and 4 bows behind. I have checked the MeG relevant lists and these appear to refer to elements that have short spear, pavisse and bow in one. The bows get full effect for 2 rows deep.

Is it reasonable to use my current 40x40 basing but assume there are two element deep. I thought that if an element was destroyed then i could replace the lost double base with a single 40x20 bow element for example.

Would this be acceptable etc - I am looking to have flexibility in using troops across DBX and MeG without having to do different basing.

Is it that Generals have to be attached to an existing file of a UG to in essence fight. And if they do so then they just add a factor. From my reading of the rules it seems as though they do not have a unit type and cannot fight independently by themselves. If there is a melee for example I understand they cannot move as an independent base to fill a gap caused by an adjacent loss in a file.

My recent war gaming has come from DBA / DBMM, where generals are of a toop type, so wished to ensure I was getting this different concept right in MeG

Thanks Peter

Ok and thanks for the response - it seemed a logical choice but best to check...

When in Charge Combat do pikes get a +1 for the 2+ ranks and another +1 if they are in 4 ranks - so a +2 overall. So similarly in melee would the oikes get +2 with 3+ ranks.

On the crib sheet there are the statements that piles have same factors as Long Spears and then ....+1 etc etc.
