Pacto / Re: Charge Move Distance

Excellent thank you. This was my assumption, but the rules were not terribly clear, and all the examples used infantry so every one was three HBWs.

Pacto / Charge Move Distance
January 03, 2024, 11:27:47 PM
Maybe I am missing it, but how far does a unit move in the Charge phase? Is it up to its max? Does Terrain matter? If a TUG cannot charge due to terrain, does that affect the forced charge distance?

THanks!

Pacto / Re: MEG Pacto PDF Edition now available

I got the pdf and I agree it is a bargain. The update is very good compared to the prior full rules, and many things are clearer.

Hello,

I bought the hardcover book in 2020. I only play Pacto (solo I might add), which is tough to suss out the special rules in the big book, and there have been many errata and updates to the Pacto rules since my copy was printed. Is there any chance CCC would offer a reduced-price Pacto PDF for fellows like me with the hardcover book which may now be obsolete?

Thanks!

Pacto / Refight Lists - Pacto
March 13, 2023, 05:56:16 PM
I really like the sample armies for specific historical refights, but they are all geared for Maximus. Is there interest in providing similar sample armies and refight lists in the Pacto format?

Player Discussion / Re: Close and Loose Formation

Thank you for this response! And as always your responses on this Forum are very fast and helpful.

I found the close order shove rule, but it is all the way in the back, in the appendix, under "shove". I would never have thought to look there for clarification on "close order versus loose order"! :)

Player Discussion / Close and Loose Formation

Hi all,

I have been re-reading the rulebook, and playing solo trying to figure out some things. My current question is why one would choose to deploy a TUG in close if the unit was flexible? As far as I can tell, close formation only has downsides (elephants and terrain). So why would I ever deploy my legions in close formation? What am I missing?

As always, thanks for the help!

Hi there!

I am also preparing to paint and base up an Achaemenid Pacto box, and wonder if you would share pictures so I can see how you are doing it?

These are fantastic. I am still learning about miniature painting, and these really inspire me to keep at it. Great work and know that you spread light and strength to people all over the world with your post.

Excellent!

I knew something was a little off that a full strength charge of gauls into the backside of a handful of javelin throwers could end in anything except tears and blood for the SUG.

This means that the Gauls would have continued to hit the front of the Cav. If I were to rewind, I would order the cav to charge, move the SUG (they were not in combat yet) and then try to keep the gauls to the front of the legion line. I see that counter-charges are not a thing in PACTO. Does this mean that whichever side moves their TUGs in the charge phase first gets to dictate the impact point? as opposed to a counter-charge, which sort of sorts itself out in a middle distance manner?

Very good to know.

In this case, the skirmishers tried to run away, but could not move far enough to avoid the charge from the gauls. The Gauls ran into the Skirmishers in the rear and rolled I think 2 reds to one black. Came up surprisingly with no wounds or kills! In the next move phase, Marc Antony ordered the javelinmen to do a 180 to face the gauls, and in the melee phase the gauls came up empty again (red and white v. black). Astoundingly lucky for the SUG I think.

Did I handle this correctly?

Now the Roman Cav is set for a charge into the gauls. I assume that because the charge is possible without moving the SUG, I dont get a charge phase move option to get the javelins away?

In the picture below, I have a SUG of javelin throwers between a friendly cav TUG and an enemy infantry TUG. The infantry TUG has declared a forced charge against the Cav.

1. Can the SUG skirmish/run away straight back through the corner of the friendly TUG or otherwise pass through it directly in the path of charge?
2. Can the SUG do a white move during charge phase to get out of the way of the enemy charge, or does the Cavalry need to be charging for that to happen?

Thanks as always!

Rules Queries and Clarifications / CPZ Question
April 28, 2022, 07:29:06 PM
Me again, learning from the book...

I have a question regarding Close Proximity Zone.

In the pic below are two PACTO TUGS of Gallic Cav, facing a Roman Cav to the front and a Roman Legion to the left. Can the leftmost Gallic Cav move forward?

The CPZ rules talk about not moving any further than or beyond the front edge of the enemy TUG, and it says the purpose of the CPZ is to prevent walking in front of the TUG, but no rule seems to say that movement cannot continue through and slightly away from the front edge of the enemy TUG. Am I missing something?
