List Queries / Re: 2408 - Alexandrian Macedonian
April 13, 2026, 04:56:29 PM
One year later, same list, another question, just to clarify a discussion I am having with someone:

2408 - MAGNA LIST (I assume the principle is the same)

Companion Cavalry - Min 4, Max 8
Upgrade to Agema - 0-4.

This means 4 of the Companion bases may become Agema, right ?
It is not a separate entry but an upgrade to the maximum of 8 bases. Essentially it is the same as if it had said "up to half".

Having 8 Companions AND 4 Agema is not permitted. Am I seeing this correctly ?

Thank you,
Dan

Hi guys,

Wanted to share the results of our Magna tournament held this weekend in Bucharest. There were 8 of us, the theme was Late Medieval Armies, from 1300 to 1525 AD. We played at 7500 pts. We played 4 games, two on each day.

It was the most balanced tournament, with 6 out of 8 players finishing within 2 points after 4 games. The first two places were level on both points scored and points scored against them and had to be separated by strength of schedule (sum of opponents points based on their place - 1st place 8 pts, last place 1 pt).

Places 3, 4 and 5 also finished level on points scored, separated by points scored against.

In the end, Bogdan Anton won, with Ottoman Turkish, followed by Laur Rusen with Late Medieval Low Countries and Dan Minculescu with Early HYW English.
Bogdan's Ottomans registered their 3rd win in a row for the Late Medieval Tournaments, having won in 2025 and 2024 as well, but this time it was a much closer run thing.

Attached the tournament overview with all games and final standings. I have also attached the winning list.

It was a great tournament that went to the wire, and great fun was had.

The next one will be on 18/19 April, dealing with Antiquity, armies between 610 BCE and 250 CE.

Cheers,
Dan

Hi guys,

another question. I am sure the answer is available, but was not able to find it (my search terms are probably wrong):

2 units are aligned, face to face, in combat. Another unit from side A moves into contact with the corner of the side B unit (happens when units are in contact side by side). Does the file in corner-to-corner contact with the enemy give support in combat ? Do they take part in the Melee phase ? Or is a charge needed to enter melee ?

I remember they do give support, but could not explain why today.

Many thanks,
Dan

Hi Nik.

Ok, so we use it as such ?
Yellow for Formed, Red for Tribal.

Thanks,

Hi guys,

We played a game today, using the new 2026 competition amendments. Apparently, M10 - Turn 180° with move now requires a Yellow card for Formed troops. I checked the old QRS and both M10 and M11 required Red cards. But now, M10 requires just a yellow card. It was not marked in yellow as a change and I was surprised. Is this a planned change, or is it a mistake in the new QRS ? I also noticed that Tribal troops can do this on a red card, until now they weren't allowed to.

Many thanks,
Dan

Hello,

I had the following situation: an enemy TuG moved in the movement phase, contacting my Guns (Artillery SuG). Do they push them back ? What happens if the guns have to retreat more than their movement allowance ? What happens if they have to retreat through another TuG of mine ?

Thank you for the clarification.

Many Thanks,
Dan

Hi guys,

I am building a Vandal army in 28mm. It's about 9 units of cavalry, some Moorish Cavalry and commands.
That would bring me to 12 Vandal Banners and 3 Moorish ones.
I intend the army to be able to proxy for Ostrogoths/Visigoths/Gepids/Langobards, basically your generic Age of Migrations Germanic Horsemen.

I am finding it difficult to find information or pictures for banners or standards for this type of troops. So I would be grateful if anyone knowledgeable would point me to some sources or would provide some descriptions.

The only actual images I get are "draco" types, but I don't want to make an army with 12 red dracos. Such an army is a great opportunity to use vivid colours for diferentiating items (such as banners). I assume animal symbols (early Germanic, Vendel types) on bright colours would be the way to go, or symbols similar to those from shields. But I am not sure about the size and shape of such flags. At least for the command groups, if nothing comes up, I am ready to use differently coloured Dracos for the actual units, but at least the Generals should have some flags, and I am unable to find any info on shapes.

Many Thanks,
Dan

Hello,

A question about Devastating Chargers:

If I have an infantry unit with devastating chargers fighting against a unit with Charging Lancer, my bonus is 0. This is clear.
My question is, if I roll an S, do I still get Shatter or not ? As I understand it, it's just a 0 claim, but I should get shatter.

And generally, does a claim of 0 negate Shatter/Shove as well ? I am sure there are other similar situations.

Many Thanks,
Dan

List Queries / 2408 - Alexandrian Macedonian

Hi all,

I have a question about the presence of Alexander in the list.

If I make a list for 338 BC and want Alexander to be a sub-general, is he still Legendary or can I take him as Talented ?

And the second question, if he is just a sub-general and NOT Legendary, am I allowed to take the Exceptional Agema unit ?

So basically I would have Philip (Talented C-in-C), Alexander (Talented, Sub-Gen) and the Agema in Alexander's command (led by him). Would that be legal ?

Many Thanks,
Dan

Thank you.
My common sense told me so, but I was hoping to be able to get 4 units of Visigothic Bucellarii :)

Hi guys,

I have a question regarding allies in the Foederate Roman list - 2518.
When using a Western army, let's say in Gaul in 451. It says that Western armies may take up to two allies - so basically Tolosan or Burgundi.

Would I be able to take two contingents from the same faction ? For example, two Tolosan Visigothic contingents or two Burgundian, or am I allowed to take two allies in that I take one Tolosan and one Burgundian ?

Many Thanks,
Dan
