Player Discussion / run away/skirmish clarification
November 25, 2021, 02:01:46 PM
Last week we had the following situation, a SUG of horse archers 2BW away from player's own table edge was charged from the front. The player wanted to run away by turning the unit 90 degrees to the left fleeing the charge zone towards his flank. The rules state that you may turn or wheel only to align in the direction of the charge and not perpendicular to it, my interpretation is that in all likelihood the SUG could only retreat directly to it's rear and being the player's rear table edge would have been removed from play, is this correct?

and the original question regarding the asavaran shooting?
#4
Asavaran don't have the "shoot and charge" capability, it would be a defensive "shoot chargers" shot while being charged. My question is if they themselves have declared a charge does this nullify the possibility to shoot?

2) the pacto qrs only allows F2....so I am assuming that cavalry may not break off from cavalry (which would be permitted in maximus with F3-F4)

Cheers!

I am inserting this situation that arose in yesterday's game as it pertains to the original subject:

A tug of lombard cavalry is facing a tug of sassanid asavaran, both declare a charge during sub-phase 2.2; during the sub-phase 2.6 it's the lombard cavalry that moves into contact against the asavaran. Is the Asavaran tug permitted to shoot against the charging lombards? My understanding would be no in that the asavaran declared a charge and the shooting sub-phase is prior to the movement sub-phase. Shooting would only be permitted by the Asavaran if they chose to stand to receive or skirmish/runaway, correct?

the following situations also came up yesterday and I'd just like to confirm:

1) If a unit has charged it may not move again during the movement phase, correct? (unless one of the four exceptions outlined on p. 80)

2) Is Cavalry only permitted to break off from infantry when playing pacto rules?

* I just realized that this is the author's section, I presume that further rules inquiries should be directed to the the player's section....sorry.

cheers!

thanks....that's what I figured, I asked because the syntax has caused some confusion here among players whose first language isn't english.

cheers!

On page 155, section B:3 states "Any file that shoots in the charge phase - including having done a skirmish response but having had no viable way to shoot at the troops charging them"
it's not exactly clear what this phrase is referring to, is something missing?

Rules Queries and Clarifications / Flank march queries
October 09, 2021, 09:44:41 AM
Today I'm going to try out a flank march and I'd just like to clear up a couple of doubts:

1) Are the units to be used in the march kept off the table during the deployment phase? (I understand the rule to read that only the general is deployed with his relevant card)

2) Can a SUG be brought onto the table using a "TUG a SUG" move

Thanks!

List Queries / Hussite Handgunners
April 06, 2021, 09:05:34 AM
The period of the Hussite Wars has always been one of my favorites and I've always desired building an army....I am especially keen on playing the Hussites using Meg, however, upon reading the army list I noticed that handgunners aren't included...not even as skirmishers. I find this suprising as one of the iconic images (after battlewagons) of the conflict is the Hussite handgunner. The Hussites were somewhat pioneers in the use of firearms, to the extent that the word píšťala even found it's way into english eventually......just curious, thanks!

Hi all,
I haven't  had a chance to look properly in the other posts as I'm  pressed for time. On page 159 of the compendium point 6 states that an S on a white die causes a wound when skilled vs. superior target, however the example on page 163 shows a black die being used...which is the correct usage?

Thanks

Player Discussion / caltrops and forced charges
July 22, 2020, 02:20:23 PM
Hi,

I was just wondering if a TUG of devastating chargers in front of an enemy TUG that has deployed caltrops has to play a card to stop the forced charge or do the caltrops count as a barricade allowing the exception turning it into a free charge?
Cheers,
Joe
