Quote from: Agoz on March 08, 2026, 01:57:52 PMIf you were looking to simplify the game for next edition, this feels like the sort of interaction you would cut from the rules. I've got no idea how I would even begin teaching this to a new player.

Noted, but the rule is pretty simple.

Question of whether the extra complexity justifies the rule.

Richard

I think you answered your own pondering: it is simple therefore it is not a great deal of complexity so does not need much pondering.
My daughter, when she played at 13, mastered this the first time she saw it.
Answering the question Why can't I charge here when I would have pushed on into it if this was a fresh charge? is far more difficult.

Which of the many sheets need to be downloaded and reprinted?
Just to save having to download them all and check each of them

Quote from: lionheartrjc on January 26, 2026, 08:41:54 AMPDF edition.

7.C:4 (page 93),  3rd bullet

Files with missile weapons and skilled, experienced, or unskilled (i.e., not charge-only) may
shoot at target bases that are in range and arc unless:
* They are in combat and will be fighting frontally or as a supporting file in melee combat,
even if this is yet to be fought (they are very busy).

Except 7C is titled "7.C: FILES THAT MAY SHOOT IN THE SHOOTING PHASE"

So this does not stop bases from firing in the charge phase.
Thanks Lawrence
That was what I have been playing

I think it is one of those rules that is easy to get wrong.

Richard
To be fair I have been allowing my opponents to shoot at me as well

Quote from: lionheartrjc on January 26, 2026, 08:57:43 AMGeneral in a supporting file against Pike, Long Spear or Spear.

This isn't in the rules currently, but in my opinion, a general fighting in a supporting file should be at risk if the base of the file being supported is killed (as if the general was in the main file).

Richard
Thank you for sharing your opinion. I hope this does not come to pass. Directing operations from nearby is not the same as fighting in the main engaged front rank and rarely adds anything to the combat outcome.
