Player Discussion / Re: Re: Shooting from Forts
April 07, 2026, 03:12:08 PM
Fort jobs were mostly to hold a garrison that could threaten the logistics line behind an invader. Not really potent in itself it still has to be reduced to avoid trouble.

Historical use?
2 units : xbow and sergeant cav inside. The cav rushing behind the enemy line if despised by the enemy during the initial general attack

Player Discussion / Re: Forts ( and settlements )

The fort should be out of the central corridor, correct?
Then you can place the camp inside only when there is a secure flank, otherwise your camp needs to remain within 6mu radius from center, correct?

Another angle, the Romans are paying for a fortified camp, while the fort is free...

My feeling is that it creats a lot of unbalance in the game rather than real benefit / playability.

That would also mean that unskilled unit could evade and shoot as well as they would if they were skirmish...

Rules Queries and Clarifications / Sub general
March 09, 2026, 10:23:03 PM
Hi read several times the general rules at he beginning of the army list book but could not find any mention/restriction to it (maybe it is a miss) :

In the case the list is mentioning ANY type of general, can we have a mix of type of general?

Example
CiC competent professional
Sub general talented instinctive
Sub general competent professional
?

Thanks

a single rank hoplite with spear VS spearmen for instance suffer from supporting files not degrading at all.
That means they are in a worse situation than a unit with no weapon at all.

=> Can they drop the spear?

We run several games with that amendment. Invariably the hoplite got butchered, while we don't see any significant incentive in terms of budget vs melee expert.

It totally killed interest of running any Greek style army.

=> What has been the feedback from the players so far?

Player Discussion / Re: Cantabrian - is it really needed?
December 08, 2025, 02:04:00 PM
Cantabrian is a very interesting feature I'm taking regularly as well.
It increase shooting lethality but at the cost of reduced mobility, risk of being caught and impossibility to hold the line.
Cantabrian is a great alternative to skilled.
No reason to take it away, I think.

Hi,

Does this amendments on long spear applies as well on mounted long spear?

Has the budget for mounted long spear be revised accordingly?

Thx for the confirmation Nik and Richard

List Queries / Cimbres and teutons
October 15, 2025, 01:55:53 PM
I was looking into the early german list.
For sure chatti were reputed for their ferocity, but the tribes that nearly obliterated Roma were cimbres and teutons.
How do we reflect it into the list?

1) Cyrus sent the cav
2) Cyrus sent the infantry
3) Cyrus sent the camel
4) Cyrus sent the scythed chariot

In that order.

No.

1) Cyrus and his cavalry went first
2) Camels advanced on the other flank, but had a disruptive effect at a great distance before reaching contact.
3a) Cyrus' infantry advance
3b) Artagerses and his "men" fell upon the enemy and at the same moment the chariots charged on left and right.
(we can't tell the order of 3a and 3b)
4) Artagerses cavalry follow up the chariots.

= scythed chariot not front line

Quote from: lionheartrjc on September 20, 2025, 07:01:06 AMThe Battle of Thymbra.  Don't agree that the account suggests that the chariots were held in reserve.  Can make the argument that the camels were sent forward first - perhaps more than 10BW away.

We are still in a situation where we do not want scythed chariots to be used as some sort of mobile reserve which is what is happening.
