Event Archive / Roll Call and the London GT
July 23, 2020, 12:48:26 PM
Earlier this year we announced the rescheduling of both Roll Call (from April to October) and the BHGS Teams @ the London GT (to September).

Unfortunately the continued restrictions around mass gatherings in place across the UK now mean that it is not going to be possible to stage either of these events in 2020, and so both will return in 2021.  In the case of the BHGS Teams, current prohibitions against staging meetings and events have recently been confirmed as remaining in place until at least October 1st across the UK, and so the organisers of the LGT have been forced to announced the cancellation of the 2020 edition.  All players who have booked for this event will be offered a refund by the LGT organisers, or the opportunity to roll forward their monies to 2021 when the event will again take place (this time over the May Day bank holiday weekend). We're all keen to see the BHGS continue to support this event, which puts historical gaming in the same (large) room as many other non-histporical formats and systems and will be working with the LGT organisers to discussing options for events in 2021.

For Roll Call, redrawing the venue table layout in a way which would allow us to comply with the newly-published social distancing guidelines for staging events would have meant a dramatic reduction in capacity.  This would have put the financial viability of the event in question, and would mean that at-best only 6-8 places could be offered in each of the events we traditionally stage. The BHGS team would also be subject to legal requirements to implement a significant number of other restrictive measures, many of which would present serious challenges for players, the BHGS Roll Call team and not least for the school itself. As such, we have decided that the best approach is to skip 2020 entirely and start to plan for a return of Roll Call at some point in 2021, as part of a wider review of our existing calendar of events.

Who is the main organiser for MeG?  i.e. who is doing the tournament organising?

Are we allowed to bring my own butties?

Yes, you can bring your own food into the venue.

You can't bring any alcohol into the venue.

Thanks Lemmey.

Some further venue information:

A map of the venue is here:

I haven't decided where the tables are going to be, but annoyingly, you can see we are about as far from the bar as we can get.

There is a venue wide PA system that we'll be using for an opening speech just before 10:00 on Saturday morning to quickly cover H&S matters. This will be used for 40k announcements, but I don't consider that MeG will need to be announced over the PA, so I'll just leave you to publish the draw as normal.

Armies can be left overnight. If you are particularly paranoid, there are lockers that you can use for £1, but obviously there will be many thousands of pounds of stuff left at the venue and it is locked when we leave - at around 11pm.

There is likely to be high demand for food - especially during peak times betwen 13:00 and 14:00. There is a pre-ordering system where you can pre order food and collect it at a set time which would help.

The bar is open till around 10:30pm, there's not an easy pub nearby - so feel free to stay at the venue and relax, but there is an 11pm lock down.

There is an official awards ceremony on Sunday from 1730-1800. There are 500 banked seats and a stage plus space for 500 more to sit in front, so this should be a pretty impressive way to round out the weekend. I'm not sure if we are going to utilise this ceremony as we finish our last game at 16:30 and some people have a long way to travel. If you could let me know if you want to utilise this option that would be grand.

Raffle: There is an excellent raffle with thousands of pounds of stuff to win, this is drawn at the awards ceremony - see me if you want to buy an tickets.

Yeah, it's me sorting out the table space, not Tim.

We have 15 tickets sold in total - can I assume that Will Denham and Hammy are replacing Ray Duggins, Alistair Harley and Lee Sanders?

Now showing as a singles event.
#8
Yes, but it's £34 a ticket, which is the cost for a single person

OK - we have three teams booked for the MeG teams.  The people who booked them were:

Richard Jeffrey-Cook
Raymond Duggins
Jason Broomer

From the post below, Richard also booked for Lance Flint and Nik Gaukroger.

I think that makes the other four:
Lee ???
Alasdair Harley
Paul Cummins
Stephen Stead

Can somebody let me have Lee's surname please and also let me know if those nine names are correct.

The link has now been updated to accept single entries and can be found here:
