List Queries / Re: Mounted Powerbow

They are meant to pay 25 points more than bow essentially just to get upgraded versus mounted when within 1MU? That seems really steep.

Will this cost be lowered? Would seem odd and inconsistent if not?

Due to 2026 changes powerbow is significantly less effective. Foot powerbow is cheaper. Mounted powerbow does not seem to be.

That's a shame. I liked my unprotected fleet of foot spearmen.

List Queries / 2026 Muromachi List 4608

Only listed change is 'Long Spear UG size' but the maximum of Professional Ashigaru has dropped from 24 to 18 (ie it has lost a unit)

Intended?

No problem.

If you do end up here in Aus. hopefully we'll get a game some time.

MeG Australia / Re: Any players in Melbourne?

Hi,

I'm in Australia (Sydney). I believe Melbourne is largely an ADLG town when it comes to Ancients gaming. I travel to Melbourne for gaming once or twice a year but always for Napoleonics. There are two main historical clubs in Melbourne you could consider contacting:

The League of Ancients

https://www.leagueofancientsmelbourne.org/?fbclid=IwY2xjawOcq7pleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETE0NWFQRzh5bkJkekhLMzBWc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHkp73gYoJIAjivFGr_dmbjDBFJ1W_skvTvYgsupshbkHjll0kHBGy7x_X6oe_aem_e4iwQt6C0AUJ5hAlQZGydQ

Nunawading Wargames Association
https://nwa.org.au/

They also both have a presence on Facebook.

How organised are troops running away any way? Wouldn't abandoning order actually make you move quicker?

On a related topic, I think it makes no sense that shooting at evaders makes it more likely they get caught. I would remove slowing effects on skirmish/run away moves.

Quote from: badhabum on October 07, 2025, 08:18:32 PMFinding a balance is never easy but characteristics can be fun and help some armies . What do we want : finding a balance, try or just sit down and do nothing  :)  except complain  ;D

In this particular case we should probably do nothing, complaining optional.

Quote from: lionheartrjc on October 06, 2025, 08:29:23 AMThank you for the suggestion.

I cannot think of a single example of this in any historical battle.
My counter-suggestion would be that Unprotected missile focused loose foot should only count as unprotected to skirmishers at <= 1BW.  This would represent loose troops sending out skirmishers to counter the enemy skirmishers.  It is simpler than your suggestion.

Would help with being outshot by skirmishers but this is hardly their main problem.

So, ReG style army characteristics? They can be kind of fun and cool but they do tend to build in an extra layer of both complexity and imbalance.

There are armies in ReG that essentially will never see the tabletop because of these (either because there are very similar armies with better characteristics or they have 'Unready'). Is that something we want?

Are cavalry armies struggling? Why would this be necessary?

It is a very artificial restriction I have always disliked in games. I can kind of accept it in ReG but see little to no reason for it in MeG (which already has a limited version of it)

On reflection I have 2 issues with this potential change. One general and one more specific.

This is an across the board slight reduction in the effectiveness of virtually all infantry (not just the archers whose shooting is getting a slight bump to compensate). Mounted are not suffering anything similar.

There are quite a few tribal, loose, fleet of Foot, missile equipped infantry (Irish and the like) whose tactics involved a lot of agile toing and froing that probably should be able to back up (in fact they should probably be better at it than drilled archers)

The new 'spear' category seems to cost the same as 'longspear' in the new army builder. Surely they should be cheaper? They sometimes have an advantage in melee if reduced to one rank (very situational) but are always much worse against shock mounted in impact.
