Message from Tim:
Hi Will, I have no idea. Depends on other themes and whether they sell out.

It's bleedin' ridiculous.  FoG sold out in 3 days, DBMM 15 and 25mm in a week. The MeG players have been very slow off the mark in taking a fortnight! 😉

If people email tournaments@wargamesreading.co.uk, David will put their names on the waiting list.

As I understand it,  it is the 3 Chariot List sets AND "Mandate of Heaven" from the Asian lists.

Here is the official info that is going on the Warfare website (at last) - pretty much as in the first post in this topic for the comp, plus some other useful bits and pieces  8)

Quote
Warfare 2019 MEG

1.   Theme:  Rise and Fall of the Chariot

10,000 Points

Any list from Sumer and Akkad, Egypt and Hatti, Assyria and Babylon & Mandate of Heaven.  Any allies must also be drawn from those lists.

2.   Entries

All entries must be booked through the Warfare website.  The organisers reserve the right in their absolute discretion to transfer unsold seats if there is a waiting list for another ruleset.

E-mail enquiries: may be sent to David Clubley (tournaments@wargamesassociationreading.co.uk) or Tim Child (tjp.child@gmail.com).

Admission to the tournament is at the sole discretion of the organisers and their decision on all matters is final. An application to enter denotes acceptance of these rules.

3.   Rules

The rules to be used are the relevant published Mortem et Gloriam rules, together with the published errata at the date of the event (see http://www.thewargameszone.org/41/Latest-Rule-Materials).

4.   Lists

The list-checker will be Nik Gaukroger; nikgaukroger@blueyonder.co.uk; please submit list as the entire army builder spreadsheet (not just the print page), to be submitted by email only.

The list submitted must not exceed the points specified and as permitted by the Theme.

The competition is single list format. Any incorrect list discovered after a game has commenced (after set up dice have been rolled) must be corrected prior to deployment if spotted in time, and fully corrected in any case before the next match.

Army lists must be submitted for checking in advance and must be received by Nik not later than 8 November 2019.

5.   Timetable

Saturday
Check-in:   8.30 am to 9.15 am (The earlier everyone gets here, the earlier we can get through check-in and “let the games begin”)
Round 1:   9.30 am to 12.30 pm
Lunch:  12.30 pm to 1.30 pm (meals are available from the café on site, but there can be long waits – if possible, find someone to take an order for you)
Round 2:  1.30 pm to 4.30 pm

Sunday
Round 3:  9.00 am to 12.00 pm (n.b. earlier start-time than Saturday)
Lunch: 12.00 pm to 1.00 pm
Round 4:  1.00 pm to 4.00 pm
Prizegiving:  As soon as we can work it out!

Tables will be numbered and the draw for the next round will be published as soon as we can.  Once they know their opponent, players can always commence games earlier by mutual consent.

6.   Competition rules

i.   The scoring system will be the standard MEG tournament system.

ii.   A modified Swiss Chess system will operate throughout the competition. Players may not play against fellow club players in the first 2 rounds, nor players whom they have played in earlier rounds, nor against any relatives in the first degree of consanguinity. Thus an entrant cannot be matched against his/her spouse, parent, brother, sister, and/or child (unless both entrants specifically inform us beforehand that you would like to have this rule disapplied to yourselves).

iii.   Players must fully define their troops as they are placed on table. Figures must provide a reasonably accurate representation of the troops they are trying to represent – they must not look deliberately misleading.

iv.   Table size:  The tables will be approximately 6' x 4' (the tables may be slightly narrower than 6’ due to the width of the marking tape, and will be played to the width of the cloths provided).  Players must supply their own terrain pieces. These must be to an acceptable standard, and umpires will have the discretion to remove unsightly items. In addition all figures must be representative and painted and based to an acceptable standard.

v.   Players must be present and ready to start the match at the appointed time. Where a player has a reasonable excuse for arriving late the match start will be delayed by up to 15 minutes, after which time the affected player will be awarded a bye.

vi.   If a player resigns from a game at any stage after the first set-up dice have been rolled the game will be scored as if the resigning player’s army had been broken at that point. Players are expected to play their games to a conclusion if they may have any relevance to final placings, as a courtesy to other competitors.

vii.   Time will be called after about 3 hours. The random factor will be determined by the umpire prior to the start of the round, and will not be revealed until the announcement is made. Players may always commence games earlier than the stated time by mutual consent.

All too easy for the Minoan & Early Mykenaian to be an army that doesn't lose, but doesn't win either IMO. We'll have to see if Mark & Robin can lift it above that ...

Just need to be aggressive with them.
Think win.  Think Triumph.
A lot will depend on their command structures and ability to prompt through fire.

Should be great competition and photos should be amazing.

Say hello to my PSC friends while I am there.  They are probably going not come along and take photos.

Just in case Warfare players aren’t reading the emails I send.  This from the organisers;

"Hopefully many of you are already aware, but there are major roadworks on the M4 this weekend. The M4 is fully closed between junctions 6 to 8/9 from 8pm Friday 15th November to 6am Monday 18th November - yes the entire weekend (they are replacing a bridge, which would be quite cool to watch if you are an engineering nerd, but you can't get to it because the M4 is closed  ).

Please factor this in to your travel plans!

See you all on Saturday morning,

Tim Child"

So the current version of battlechariots performed Ok but didn't dominate, even in a biblical theme (2 of the top 3 aren't chariot armies).

Did players come away feeling battlechariots needed to change?
