1) Chargeing lancers who charge into spears lose their +2 for lance. If they roll an S in combat, do they get Shatter? This seems basic, but I could not find it in the clarities. didn't matter in our game, but we wondered.
2) A cavalry unit breaks off from foot. The cavalry has a move of 5, -1 for breaking off. May the cavalry break off for less than 4? (Say, 3 for a free charge next turn? If the breaking off cavalry has friends less than 4 to its rear, may the cavalry break off at all? May it stop when it meets friends? Does this change if the troops behind are enemies facing away
If the breakers off collide rear to rear with enemy, may either sue for whiplash?
1) Yes, they do not lose the shatter.
2) Look at the QRS. The break off is directly backwards, a minimum of 2BW and a maximum of a normal move less 1BW. You may not contact enemy and must stop if you meet friends. If you cannot move the minimum distance then you cannot break off. The universal 1/2 BW shift rule still applies.

Thanks, Richard! I'll take another look at the QRS. Funny how these answers turn invisible when you look mid-game, and then appear in large print with flashing lights when some kind person points them out.
aaah the pressure of battle .... ;) ;)
