Title: T’ang Feigned flight
Post by: AntiokosIII on December 02, 2019, 08:50:34 PM
The historical notes give Emperor Taizong credit for adopting the Steppe tactic of feigned Flight, yet the army doesn't get it. I assume this was an oversight?

Really, with such a huge number of lists, I am amazed this sort of thing is so rare.

Not worth dignifying with a response, apparently.

That comment certainly doesn't encourage a response.  I have work and other commitments and interests.

Yes - Tang (and pretty much any other army you care to name) might be given Feigned Flight characteristic.  It hasn't.

Lesson learned. In my own (meager) defense, I can only point out that you usually respond to these very quickly. I misinterpreted the delay as scorn. I now know better.

It is slightly disconcerting that the official-looking Historical Notes are not to be relied upon. I have lived through worse. I do thank you for the clarity of your response.

Haha! I remember in FoGA how the Numidians were referred to as the best light cavalry in the Western Med (or something like that), yet they were perfectly average.

If you read the Historical Note:

" He was also acquainted with the steppe military tactic of the feigned retreat, adapting this tactic successfully from its use with cavalry forces to use with primarily infantry forces."

The Feigned Flight characteristic in the MeG rules only works with Skirmishers and Flexible Cavalry.  This doesn't really sit with the feigned flight used by Taizong.  In scenario games you might consider giving the Feigned Flight characteristic to the Tang infantry.  We didn't in the main rules because this would unbalance the game.
