a 4 base unit of Cv devastating chargers - labelled thus to illustrate my question:
AC
BD
(AC are the two bases to the front)
An enemy unit charges the unit at an angle hitting bases A and B frontally. A second enemy hits base C frontally.
Q1. Does unit A qualify for the +1 for being 2 deep devastating charger, even if the supporting rank is fighting its own impact? (Would the answer differ is the unit was say 2 deep long spearmen?)
Q2. If base B scores a shatter, would this benefit base A as this is theoretically fighting adjacently? If so, logic would dictate that if it were base A which caused the shatter, benefit would apply to both B and C (assuming that they hadn't fought yet)
Easy bit first. To give a shatter bonus you have to be a Neighbouring File so B can never give shatter bonus to A. But could file to file CD.
For rest Page 88 1.3
You have the choice as the owner of B to fight back single rank, and have A single rank and roll 2 dice.
OR to have B provide ranks to A and then you don't rol a fight back dice against the file in contact with B.
Decision depends a lot on what has hit you and who is active I guess.
I have added diagram of pikes being hit like that to be clear.

and what happens if the owner of B decides to use it as a supporting rank but the active charging player decides to fight B first and kills it out right on a skull? its not actually fighting so presumably A has now lost it supporting factor?
Naturally ....
Hence me saying the diction will come down to who is active and what is charging them.
