When the current lists were prepared I do not believe that the option for charge only shooting did not exist. I must admit to feeling strongly that this shoot be adopted rather than the current shoot and charge situation. I can find no examples of highlanders hanging around for shooting duels nor did the fact that they shoot restrict them from charging into contact.
Seems likely that they'd only fire their arrows if they had a decent chance of recovering them in the charge!
Are you hinting at a Scottish stereotype with that comment?
Are you saying that the highlanders should be charge only shooters? Your initial post has me completely confused.
Richard
Richard in very simple terms - yes.
I was trying to give some rationale in that do do otherwise means they have to pay to charge which seems strange due to the nature of Highland charges. In addition, they do not seem to have involved themselves in protracted shooting
Hope this is clearer now.

I'm no expert on highlanders but I think this is definitely right. As far as I understand they kept everything for the big charge including shooting. So Charge Only Shooting exactly describes their behaviour (could have been written for them!) and Shoot and Charge gives them abilities they didn't use or have (prolonged shooting basically) .
It's one of the things I like about MeG that you can see distinctions like this without needing special scenario rules for particular troops.
The change will be included in the 2020 lists.
Thanks Richard. Unfortunately for you, they do appear in quite a few lists!!
John
Yes. Also, to prevent the shooting being too powerful (Charge Only shoots as Average) I have reduced the proportion with bow to 1/3, not 2/3. Otherwise they become better than English longbowmen.
Interesting. Will look forward to seeing the revised list.
