Title: another question concerning shift
Post by: dvorkin59 on October 21, 2019, 09:56:50 PM
During our tournament we had an interesting situation:
Following  a flank charge on a file of 3 knights the charging infantry hit the two last stands and  kill the base in the middle, now one is in contact  with his front corner to the rear corner of the head of the file. Is it possible to align in order to get two fights during the combat phase or I have to pay to create a new supporting file.

Yes align all fine as under 1BW and deliberate to give you the advantage to get the two fights back for free.

The flanker touch only rank 2 and 3 of the flanked unit.
Base rank 2 of flanked unit is destroyed.
Flanker can align for FREE with the base rank 1 of the flanked unit?
This «  alignment on a base not in contact »  create another fight for free!

Are you sure?

I agree with Si.

FWIW I think that if you aligned the right hand most infantry base as opposed to the left one, you'd create a flank contact with the front rank cavalry base anyway, so I think 2 possible aligns that create 2 fights.

The align we speak abt are not impact alignment but pre melee alignment

I can add anything if it helps you all.
As you know I believe it's a better approach that the PB one of "its obvious" or "play it as intended".

But it has always been this way - there has never been any difference between aligns in charge and pre-melee ..... ever.
So I am not sure where is the uncertainty is coming from?
Seemed a simple question with a simple answer .....  didn't even give it a second thought.
Am I missing something?

Fort me it is pretty obvious but not for everybody .So it needs to be in the exemples .

In ordre to have the new rule book published in time, could you just create one post for those clarifications with diagram  8)

Happy to do it as a Q&A.  Indeed I can add a diagram or two to the rules.
Can you explain your second sentence Jacques as I don't understand what you mean I'm afraid.  tx

Final drafting is over next 3 weeks so a great time to pass me any remaining areas needing clarity.
We are trying to capture them all.
I am sure we will miss a few. Impossible not too.
Bit by all means post anything so I can check.
