Bit less than Skull Rollers... was it the beer?
I've heard via the Reigate email that Stephen suffered from slow playing opponents.

That might be a bit of it - but I'm not particularly slow playing and I felt that time was tight. In at least one drawn game I felt that another 15 minutes would have been decisive (many TuGs on both sides on the brink of going) and in one game that I lost the time pressure at the end was very pressing - and I could see that my opponent felt it.
I do feel that a bit more than three hours (perhaps only an extra 15 minutes) would give more decisive results and make some of the games a bit more enjoyable without that rising feeling of time panic at the end.
PS Stephen didn't say that himself - wouldn't want any of his opponents to feel he was bad mouthing them behind their backs. That was just my uninformed speculation.
PPS In my last game my opponent would definitely have broken me if he had had one more turn

Not sure on the math, however sadly (?) the volume of beer sales at Britcon has seen such a decline in recent years that we were only able to persuade the Uni to keep the bar open only on Friday & Saturday...and even to to that meant giving all our players a free pint!
At Skulls the % of games finished was higher.
