Charging Lancers and Devastating Chargers both have Forced Charges.
However, the characteristic description for DC says that if they will be 3 or more factors down in the melee the forced charge does not apply.
There is no such rule for Charging Lancers. (unless I've missed it in which case the question below is moot :P )
So if troops have both characteristics do they have a forced charge if they would be 3 factors down or not?

Yeah, this exact situation came up in my my game wit Jason Broomer on Sunday. I positioned my superior LSp in front of his average / charging lancer / dev charge knights. In the next charge phase I questioned if he needed to play a card to hold his knights. We resolved it that he didn't. However Niks question opens this up to debate.
On the qrs the line for stopping forced charge states both CL and DC.
Condition not to charge apply for both (as well as for the unit in 1 bg), no?

Would appear to be the bit I have missed 8)
and that closes down the debate
Why do short spears cost more than CL? ;)

That's only for samurai
avg mounted short spear is 10pts, charging lancer is 25pts. not sure how you are finding it costing more?
short spear is still one of the most points efficient weapons (more so for foot than cav though)
Applies to both, so they avoid he obviously suicidal but will risk a Yellow-Black.
Says CL/DC in the notes.
Arguably better to remove it entirely...?
Fine as it is, I had just completely missed the bit on the QRS :o :P
Noticed it when I swapped on some superior chariots earlier...

Good to know you miss the odd thing ... ;)

Actually, there is a follow up question.
If they are not subject to a Forced Charge do they have a Free Charge? Or would they have to pay for a charge (assuming the player felt the risky combat was worth a punt) ?
The 3 factors or greater isn't one of the conditions in the rule book where a forced charge is instead free.

My understanding is CL and DC have to charge by default unless you do « stop of force charge » which is free when the differential factor are over 3.

I suspect the answer is they have to pay and that I'm just over thinking this a bit :o ;D
The QRS states "Don't have to charge if >= 3 down in charge combat". The problem is that this is not mentioned in the rules - it needs to be clarified by Simon.
If asked to umpire I think I would rule it as a Free charge.
Richard
1.3.1 on p. 70 says it's a free charge if it's directly ahead within 3BWs.
Indeed. It's the stop that is free.
