Title: Slowing effect from firearms
Post by: craig.w on July 03, 2019, 02:56:26 PM
Hello,

Using firearms for the first time, just wanted to check:

When it says that firearms rolling an S "calculate slowing effect of fire as normal and but then add another 1BW to the slowing effect for every S" does it mean that if the calculated effect is zero, it is still slowed by 1BW?

Thanks

Yes as long as you rolled an S  ;D

So vs a3 frontage target with firearms/bows

S = slowed 1 BW/nothing
2xS = Slowed by 3BW/Slowed by 1BW
3xS = Slowed by 5BW/Slowed by 2 BW

So gunpowder weapons can cause a bit of chaos.

Can you slow down something more than its movement? Eg 5 slows on a foot TUG? So it would need a red and a yellow card to be able to move 3BW?

The most you can slow a unit by is 3 BW. This could be more than their move distance e.g. Close foot in difficult going  8)

Yes if their current move is less than 3BW.  But rare as 3BW is max slowing.

But with "artillery/firearms you" you can get a lot.
Indeed I once had a game with Hammy where my LH were slowed to zero.
They were trying to exit a wood at 4BW and took a double S from two ballitaes = 4BW slowing effect.
A bugger really as 3BW deep ... so a red to get them out.
I left them there as a lasting target!

Actually, despite the title of this topic I managed to miss the opportunity to Firearms to add to this. 3 BW is what you can get by having 2x unit frontage of Skulls/Woulds/S, but firearms will add 1BW for each S. Get enough firearms rolling S's and you could rack up  far more than 3 BW  ;D

i think you can only recover 3 BW (red card) and not play multiple cards for prompting through fire - but I could be wrong.

<humor mode engaged>- if you hit a unit with 3 BW movement fo 4 slows, does it go backwards by 1 BW? <humor mode canceled>

I think it rather falls into a hole!

As per the title, you re fired.

Wow I always assumed max 3 BW slowing effect, for some reason. That it can go well above 3 makes a much more interesting take on firearms/arty.

Cheers
