Should this advantage be lost when going through terrain that affects/disadvantages the troop type?
I would say NO
hmmmmm
So "fleet of foot" would be +1 BW movement for the troops in the type of terrain
Close order foot, with Fleet of Foot, would move 3BW in difficult going.
No not +1 but as the rule says :
TUGs with fleet of foot use skirmishers movement distance.
It is slightly different but same effect
There also shouldn't be any close foot with FoF either

I'm making a suggestion. Following on from Jason's comment

Take that up with RJC and Simon. close order, superior, Swiss Pike with Fleet of Foot and Kiel.
Iron Mountain dwarf with Mithril armor ? :o

I'm ok with it. The risk of getting caught in the terrain vs. the temptation.
Hmm .... go for it.
They were rather good at marching through small ravines and paths and reforming IIRC.
A but further from the action in reality I suspect.

at Nancy in january 1477, full snowy winter, east of France , The swiss hired by duke Rene of Lorraine, made a lenghthy flank march trough a Forest , ( Foret de Haye, still a significant forest today . I mean Forest not wood ) . and landed of the Flank of the Burgundians, carrying the day ... :P
Ok they had local guides and local support and Charles was a poor general but that's another story ::)
So definitely Iron Mountain dwarves fleet of foot >:(
We had a game today and tried late swiss . Now we found out 2 interesting items
- Swiss moving at SK rate ( fleet of foot ) can easely break off
- Their opponent if INF cannot .
Indeed - at present.

yes but ..deadly as it is very hard to run away from them.
even fall back has its limitations against them
Just think, catafracts can't break off without a KaB (why would Cats be fighting Swiss pikes, and would they survive to attempt to break off).
True enough.
But small.
Can struggle to kill enough TuGs to win.
Flanks are vulnerable (think of as a weak front) and rears as vulnerable as anyone else.
