Title: Loose foot charging into rear of Cv
Post by: jasonbroomer on June 02, 2019, 07:51:08 PM
Si,

I've also thought it odd that loose foot charging into the rear of cavalry suffer the -1 for foot charging Cv and -1 for being loose. Surely one of these (if not both) should only be applied to frontal charges.

Just played a game and found it a bit grim to be only one factor up charging superior Cv up the rear?

Don't those factors count only against frontal opponents?

No. Only those claims with an Asterix are limited to fighting to the front.

I experienced it myself with my  bowmen charging the flanc of some superior chariots.
At the end it was a green vs green. So much for the flanc charge !

Seems sensible to me.

Being charged in flank by tightly formed heavy no fun at all.
Being charged in flank by loose order troops not so bad.
Charging mounted with foot not easy at all as individual mounted just turn to face without needing any formation (close order cataphracts perhaps excluded).

It is set up so flank charge by foot on cv/cm/Ch is as follows without grades and waepons:
Close Order net +3
Loose Order net +2
Skirmishers net +1

Seems spot on to me.

Seems a good deal to me ...
Average bowmen vs Superior chariots turn a -4/5 into evens by hitting them in the flank.
Points per base difference ...? More bases.
But need to kill them quickly.
Feels good to me.

Looking at it through that lens it does indeed feel about right.

I'm going to run in and hit your chariot thingy with my bow, not.  Alternatively chaps, we can take pot shots at those horrible horsey carts from a safe distance. Let me think ........................

Agree with Simon, those boys shouldn't be fighting at all, so being on evens seems a good deal.

So do the Mounted hit in the rear also get an extra plus one for foot not standing to receive.

They do hence the net +3 while cav are a net +4 pre grades and waepons.
Feels right to me.

Its one you could argue about until the crack of doom - personally I can live with it as it stands.

Its al designed to give

Target receiving Flank charge from Close/Loose/Skirmisher
Any charging Cav        +4/+4/+2
Inf charging inf           +4/+4/+2
Inf charging Mtd         +3/+2/+1

Consistency feels about right to me.

To be honest net +2 for loose order bowmen vs cav is a nice deal and well worth a try.  But no certainty if they can turn and fight back - which is surely correct.
