I noticed when reading a book on the fall of the Roman empire (Peter Heather p 153) that Vithimer - a Greuthingi leader hired some Huns to help him fight the Huns. So c. 370-374, Greuthingi could have a Hun ally. This will be in the next set of list changes.

A hun ally, or just a few (0-8?) Huns in list you could hire as 'mercenaries'? I've never been clear on when one approach or the other is best.

Well, the byzantines hired some Huns and they are a separate unit or two.

I would favour the separate unit if only because it seems to be the same case : hiring some as mercenaries .
