Title: Supporting files an illogic situation ?
Post by: badhabum on March 15, 2026, 10:30:55 AM
This is linked with https://mortem-et-gloriam.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=4176.0

and with https://mortem-et-gloriam.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=4149.0

Looking at that discussion I had the feeling that the rules were "illogic"

The situation is one of a TUG is in "support" of another distinct TUG

A supporting file may not charge 1 BW forward as it is in combat ( engaged ) but curiously may move away from it perhaps allow the "former" supporting files to charge the flanks

But that same unit may not move by pivot to engage the opponent's flank ( yet it may move away, even straight forward )

I fail to understand the logic . Either the TUG is stuck in combat which opens many doors as stuck is immobile or not . Is it is not why may it move forward, at an angle to attack a flank but not a pivot to engage ( I repeat myself to be sure I say correctly what I mean )

So what am I missing and would it not be usefull to simplify the rules and keep some logic in the sens : it is stuck / it is not stuck

KISS is the right principle ( in this case )

A supporting file can only move away if it is in a different UG.

It is a rules mechanism. It would be daft to force an UG to be pinned purely because it had a single file in a supporting file position.
Wheeling onto flanks causes all sorts of rules issues.  It would not be as simple as you are suggesting.

You have raised this multiple times.  We have reviewed it and don't agree with you.

There is a misunderstanding here as it is the first time I ask only to understand why the 3 cases are different but OK I bow to your decision
