Title: Ideas to simplify rules : flank melee

Most of us do know the rules and sometimes we still must go, read, read twice, explain ...So trying to make things easy might be a good idea if we want to speed up the games all over the world and have the interest of new players

Years ago we played MEG "wrong" until we discovered that as for the 3 first pictures , a TUG in overlap , so contributing with SUPPORTING files only could not move 90° and engage the opponent in the flank during melee. Quite "strangely" to us you needed first to "disengage"  as in picture 2, wait a turn and charge later as in picture 3 .

So what I propose is to modify it and do as we played some years ago and allow the supporting TUG just to turn 90° and initiate a melee on the flank . It makes things easy . The other solution to disengage is still available but now you have 2 solutions

It will certainly impact other parts of the rules .

Now veteran players might say that there is nop need to change it as they know the rule . I will argue that it will speed up things, once again show the value of protecting a flank, makes things simpler for NEW players which is the most important aim ..;new players here still struggle a bit with what seems a strange concept : why can't I just turn and engage ...because the rules say so  8)  but on table it seems strange

Doesn't 4 . J:Engaging in melee when already in contact section 2.1 bullet point 2 say that a UG that is in front corner only contact with an enemy can make a wheel into side contact with the enemy? Isn't that basically what you are asking?

There is a clarification that relates to this and stops an UG that is a supporting file from doing it.

It is a part of the rules that we need to review IMO.

I know hence the proposal to modify it for simplicity sake, speed of game and attractivity for new players

Did you miss the fact that it is a PROPOSAL  :)

If no one communicates about ideas, there will never be a V2027 ....and more  ;D
