A couple of questions came up today at CANCON
1. Forced Charge burst through Skirmishers.
Charging Lancers burst through a mounted TUG in front of them
The sequence of play is:
- 2.2 Declare charges
- 2.5 Shoot Chargers
- 2.6 Move Chargers
In theory this means that the Charging Lancers are protected from being shot at by the unit we they are charging as there is no specific timing for when the Skirmishers are removed though H6.4 implies it is as the chargers move, so the sequence suggests that the Defenders do not get to shoot.
2. Contact own skirmishers in pursuit (and need more than 1/2 base width shift to avoid)
Do the pursuers stop on contact (9.7 C 7.1), destroy them as a breakthrough (as per charging) or push the skirmishers aside (H4.3). Different sections of the rules suggest all three are valid options.
3. Pursuit in the Charge phase, if a unit pursues in the contact phase and contact a new enemy they fight immediately (8 SP2.8 8.6) can this occur more than once in a charge phase? eg A TUG destroys a en TUG on the charge, hits another fights and destroys it, and then hits a third, does it fight the 3rd unit? There appear to be no limits
1. Any unit that is burst through and removed from the table due to forced charges are removed immediately. This is so that they don't benefit from not getting shot at. (This is a recent clarification as it isn't clear in the turn sequence).
2. It is unusual to contact your own skirmishers in a pursuit as usually the routers will contact the skirmishers first and stop. However if you do, you stop. You can use the universal 1/2 base width shift to get past them. You cannot displace your own skirmishers.
3. Yes, you can pursue and fight several combats in the charge phase. No limit. I think the most I have seen in a game was three pursuits. Usually a quick way to win a game!
Thanks, I got some right, some wrong.
(And today also learnt that files fighting as an overlap do not shoot when charged)

Yes they do
PDF edition.
7.C:4 (page 93), 3rd bullet
Files with missile weapons and skilled, experienced, or unskilled (i.e., not charge-only) may
shoot at target bases that are in range and arc unless:
* They are in combat and will be fighting frontally or as a supporting file in melee combat,
even if this is yet to be fought (they are very busy).
Well that something I hadn't noticed. Is that a change in the PDF edition or was it ever thus I have just been playing it wrong for 10 years?

I think it is one of those rules that is easy to get wrong.

Except 7C is titled "7.C: FILES THAT MAY SHOOT IN THE SHOOTING PHASE"
So this does not stop bases from firing in the charge phase.

That was what I have been playing
