Title: Pursuit queries
Post by: Max Maxwell on January 06, 2026, 08:44:27 PM

Question for the group please:

In our recent game, a TUG was attacked at to its front and rear at the same time.

One of the rear bases was destroyed and removed.

Due to previous losses, this meant that the TUG attacking the rear was left I engaged with the target TUG although the target TUG was still "alive" and fighting.

In such cases, what are the rules regarding pursuit? Is the attacking unit left "hanging" until it can charge again?

Many thanks

Max

Do you mean unengaged?
If so you missed a subtlety of the base removal process, in that you cannot remove the last base in contact with an engaged UG. Instead you have to take another base off from elsewhere. There are a couple of special cases which are spelt out in the base removal  rules.

Thanks for your reply, much an ,and yes, I meant I engaged.

A quick follow up, if that's ok:

Where all other bases are engaged, we assumed that the losing base is removed. This would leave the issue of the "hanging unit". In this situation, does the TUG/File push forward even if the target TUG has not routed/been destroyed, to stay in contact with?

Hanging is not a term used in the rules, but I assume you mean out of contact with any base in the enemy unit in melee.
You will never remove a base and leave a unit "hanging" unless removing every other base would result in leaving a unit "hanging".

Occasionally, an individual file may need to move forward to remain in contact with an enemy file.

Thanks, Richard. "Hanging" is my phrase but your (and Steads') response is really helpful.
