Title: Cimbres and teutons
Post by: Rino on October 15, 2025, 01:55:53 PM
I was looking into the early german list.
For sure chatti were reputed for their ferocity, but the tribes that nearly obliterated Roma were cimbres and teutons.
How do we reflect it into the list?

I take it that this is basically fishing for additional better (Superior) troops for the Cimbri and Teutones  ;D

It is certainly a fair question. However, whilst being mindful of creating circular arguments, I think it is also necessary to look at the Roman armies that they beat which do not, on the face of it, appear to have been particularly good and were definitely very badly led (arguing consuls IIRC who refused to cooperate) until Marius turned up with a well trained and well led army.

Well worth a dig into what we actually know (or can reasonably deduce) to see if the Cimbri and Teutones justify different treatment like the Chatti IMO.

I looked into this years ago.

The initial Cimbri and Teutones army was huge.

Marius only beat them after they had split up into two (three?) separate armies, and even then he declined battle until he had been reinforced.

So all you need to do is have a special rule that UGs in this army (before a certain date) only cost half the normal points.

Lawrence, I think this is very disrespectful to a genuine query.

Sorry, what I meant was:

There is no need for a list change.
