Title: representing Byzantine skutatoi?
Post by: aphilla on May 04, 2019, 03:06:59 AM

How have folks gone about depicting Skutatoi?  Do you paint them as units of 4 stands, or 6 stands, or 8 stands?  I'm not talking about how you take them in the list, but how you represent units.  Aventine claims that the release of their early Byzantines is just around the corner, so I'm thinking about how to group them.

2x8s is the most resilient option.  And has the advantage that you can go 4 deep with spears in front.  So can handle infantry opponents better.

When doing the army I found 3x6s was more aggressive.  You could block shooty cavalry well with them and it got my break point to 5.
