I was wondering :
Looking for an army to play at rueil I noticed that PA was a little bit more costly than LS. A formed loose AV infantry unit with PA costs 82 points a base but if equipped with LS it costs 81 points.
So i wonder why PA is costlier as :
PA gives a +1 vs any at impact, in melee if in 2 ranks +1 vs any, in one rank +1 vs mounted only. At impact it cancels CL and SP
LS gives a +2 vs mounted at impact if 2 rank deep, otherwise +1 vs any if 2 rank deep, in melee if in 2 ranks +1 vs infantry, +2 vs mounted and cancels mounted ME. At impact it cancels CL,LS,SP and DC
So IMO LS is far better than PA but costs a little bit less. So what did I miss ?
We are looking at 2025 points here.
The 1 point difference is negligible. Essentially what you are comparing is the +1 claim vs mounted in 1 rank against +2 vs mounted in 2 ranks and the cancellation of DC and Mounted LSp. Polearm claims also count if affected by terrain which long spear do not (which you may be missing).
I see where you are coming from, but I don't see it as a huge issue.

It's an important point. It's loose order TUGS so vulnerable to mounted . LS is much better but still cost less . One point may make a difference .
Loose in terrain is better vs mounted :)
I was considering loose in the open ( a common feature in MEG ) vs mounted . LS is the better option .
Also remember in melee LS in 1 rank are zero against mounted and do not cancel mounted ME.
I know but I fear impact is the most important part if you consider mounted and that's my point . I did not expect everyone to agree but my feeling is you get more bonuses from LS than from PA which in essence is a LS with a heavier sticky axe like point

Well, you get at least one melee per charge combat, usually more, unless you always break off, so in the long run melee is more important, though CL DC cavalry depend a lot on getting their plusses in charge combat.
If you break off and charge again, LS in 1 rank are zero, PA are +1 albeit with fewer cancellations than LS.
