It was an excellent event. I had fun, even including the 15-0 thrashing I took from the Swiss (Dan Martz Jr.) in the first round (where I got badly out-deployed, seriously out maneuvered-I can honestly say my dice were utter crap and it made no difference at all to the outcome-great dice and I still go down badly).

I played a bit better in Round 2 and got a few points off Ludwig (Lenny) Herrmann. A couple errors on my part kept me from a bigger result. Game 3 was against Dan Martz Sr and his Nikephorian Byzantines. I had the right idea on deployment, I thought, but my timing was poor- I had him on the point of breaking, and had superior elephants about to charge into average lancer cavalry on the next turn, when time was called. Live and learn. In a 2.5 hour round, you must play quickly. Finally, on Sunday, I faced John Baumann with Later 100 year's war English. This time I got my attacks in quickly (by being a bit more aggressive and a bit less cautious) and as a reward, John's longbows suddenly could not hit the broad side of a ...elephant. I generally got my charges in unscathed, with a general fighting in the front rank against formed men at arms. The result was a LOT of shatter results and a lot of dead longbowmen.

So I finished (barely) above the fold, and learned a good deal about my army. Maybe I can keep my placement at Skull Rollers to mild embarrassment (as opposed to abject humiliation).

Thanks for the write up.  Look forward to seeing that learning play out at skulls!

I would've liked it, too...from the other side of the table. Facing it was ugly. Beautiful army, nicely painted, but butt ugly to fight against!
