Title: Catalan knights and friends in Greece
Post by: DracoStandard on April 29, 2019, 12:17:08 PM
the maxima and minima for the catalan cavalls mean you have to take a (useless) 4 of one of them

armats min 2, max 4
alforrats min 4 max 8

you can have 2 lots of 2x2 (so two horrible  4 strong TUGs, but max armats and min alforrats met)
you can have 1 lot of 2x3 (so a fighting TUG of 6, min armats met, but you need 1 more alforrats, so you have to take an extra 4 of really not very good cav)
you could try 1 lot of 2x3 and a 6 of alforrats- which would give you 2 fighting TUGs, but no, the max of alforrats is 8.

you cant even take a hideously inefficient 2+4 usnit (the 4 having to be the crap ones)

Is this specifically designed to make sure you have at least one rubbish cavalry TUG or is it an oversight where the minimum alforrats could be 3 to achieve a single unit of knights, or 9 to achieve 2 units of cav?

...you cant even have 2 lots of 2x3 as the max of proper knights is 4

...and i cant find the minima/maxima combo having a similar impact anywhere else - apart from the lusignian cypriot allied templar contingent which has a 0-4 for knights, and 0-2 for rear rankers, with a max tug size of 6.  not really the same, but does make a 4/2 unit possible, which is slightly odd

Combining the armat and the alforrats is optional.

You don't have to combine all, so you could in theory take a 6 of combined almat/alforats as well as a separate 4 of alforrats.

I suspect it is deliberate.

Indeed.

so it is intentional to make you have to take one of your units as a 4, and therefore render it unfit for combat

...my definition of being rubbish is a 4 of mounted assault troops, not saying the cav are innately rubbish

If, instead, you were looking at the Catalan in Anatolia you'd not be forced to have a 4. Just saying ...  8)

Whilst Catalans are on the agenda, I wonder if it was intended that Fleet of Foot would apply to Flexible infantry when they are in Close formation? Applies to the Anatolia list.

Why not?

At present it does.

The idea of fleet of foot is for troops that are agile, so it isn't really compatible with being in close formation.

It is far from rubbish . It is a very strong unit, feeble in numbers but it has some shockpower . I used one similar group and in the army it was the only shock unit. So I had to use it very carefully .

You cannot always have exceptional fanatic knights  8)

And that cavalry is not THE power of the list but a usefull part of it
