Title: Desertion
Post by: LawrenceG on February 24, 2025, 05:29:43 PM
pdf 2.D.6.2

6.2. If they draw all BLACK cards at any time, including the first draw, they suffer desertion
and the opponent gets a KaB test on every UG in the allied command.

It's been asserted that "at any time" in 6.2 means you get the KAB tests even if the ally is not hesitant. This is perfectly clear, so there's no need to follow the link to the glossary.

If I do follow the link, I find:

An effect on a hesitant ally if they draw all BLACK cards (including at first draw). Gives the
enemy a KaB on each UG in the allied command each time it occurs. The risk stops once
the ally becomes committed. (See 2.D)

The table at the end of 2.B says "(Black and hesitant)" so I infer that desertion KaBs only apply to hesitant allies.

Overall, I need to look in three places and then work out which interpretation has the most support. This is not mentally ergonomic.

Any chance of  6.2 being made consistent next time the rules are updated?

I am sure that the rules wording can be improved. However, I do feel that choosing to not follow a highlighted link is a bit daft; self inflicted ignorance really.

Nonetheless, it is less ergonomic than not needing to follow the link, especially if you are looking at a printed out copy.

But still a bit daft regardless.
