Title: Uncommitted allied Skirmishers
Post by: AntiokosIII on February 10, 2025, 02:00:32 AM
This past Saturday i tried out the Catalan Grand Company in Anatolia with the Alan ally and its mandatory mediocre instinctive ally general. It was throughly unpleasant. I don't want to talk about it.

One interesting question came up. While the Alans (2 units of CC, Bow) were still uncommitted, they were charged jointly by a single unit of formed cavalry. Had either survived being run down, would they have become committed? They both shot, missed, and were ridden down, but had they survived (by not rolling 1's)
Would they have been committed? They never fought a melee , and never got shot at. They did get charged; does this count as being attacked? The rules seem to say no. This seems an anomalous result, as troops are being actively charged and pursued. Did we play it correctly?
In the meantime, the Alan ally goes back to the shelf until I forgive them. They may have a long wait,

The rules require them to be shot at or in combat before a YELLOW as opposed to a RED is required to cease being hesitant.
As you point out, this means they can be charged and ridden down without it changing the situation which seems wrong.
