Hey team,
Not a historian by any sense but have been interested in the pre-mongol dynasties of China for a while and gravitated more to Song as of late.
A few things about the Southern Song list I would like to make suggestions for future changes I think might strengthen the imagery of fielding a Southern Song army. Not necessarily requesting all of them at once, but a few possibles to consider.
1. Polearms being standard on imperial infantry - these are fairly common weapons of china and the Song were known for utilising a range of polearms (as well as predominantly fighting cavalry armies).
2. Southern Song crossbowmen were trained to stand up to cavalry charges and utilise volley firing and this is attributed to the widespread application of crossbow within the Song Army.
maybe some TUGs could be upgraded to short spear or spear protection as a skill.
3. Yue Fei changes - instead of allowing polearm I think Yue Fei / Jin war period should allow upgrades to drilled for the imperial infantry forces, and possibly additional 2HCC TUGs - superior even.
One source of the battle focuss on the use of shield bearers to absorb the charge and the horse chopping swords being instrumental in causing large casualties on the iron pagodas.
In MeG terms I think this engagement is better reflected by 2HCC much more than polearm.
Southern Song has been on my list for a proper review for some time, just need to find the time. It feels a bit not quite right at present.

Oh thats good I'm not the only one that feels it's slightly off.
Its not far off mind you, I keep returning to have another go at writing something that feels right and that I really like but just couldn't quite land there.
Rather than start a new thread - more a query than a change request.
In Southern Song, can an Ally general consist only of the Zhuang Tribal Contingent - or must any Southern Song ally comply with the 3 TuGs with minima?
I assume no? as I currently read that Zhuang tribal troops can be taken in the normal Song army under the Song generals.
Unlike the Later Northern Song, the Zhuang in the current Southern Song are not a separate allied contingent (in fact including contingent is rather confusing and I will take it out). They are just like other troops and conform to the normal rules. So no, an ally cannot consist only of Zhuang.
