A flank charge hits a 3 or 4 bases deep TUG but hits it with a corner hitting the base and the second or 3rd base of the file.
Now as that hitted base is in a file it has no space to turn and conform as it would displace other files a lot or if the front bas eis engaged by another TUG what are the possibilities to avoid having to fight with an opponent in the flank
how can a base hit in flank or rear align?
The easy answer is use MF2 but the question is how to do it if there is no space to do it because the base is sandwiched in the file 8) ( often phalanxes )
The bases contacted in the flank turn 90o as do any bases that will allow them to turn. They form a maximum of 2 deep (3 deep if using 15mm depth bases). They don't reduce the number of files in combat.
If the depth of bases will exceed a base width then the enemy fall back enough to allow the bases to turn. If due to insufficient space they cannot do so, then see if the UG contacted in flank (and any other UGs in contact) can shift sufficiently to provide room. In the unlikely event there is insufficient room for anyone to move then fight the melee as if people had turned (I have never had this happen yet) and turn the bases as soon as space becomes available.
Probably needs a diagram...

Thank you
Yes a diagram might be very useful indeed
