Hello,
The Dura Europos monastry shows what seems to have been Pamyran Infantry.
However there is no trace of these in the lists.
just wondering why.
Regards,
JL
Depends on how you interpret the wall Dura synagogue paintings I guess.
There are 2 depicting soldiers (IIRC). One is the crossing of the Red Sea where a large body of soldiers are shown and look pretty Roman, although the detail is not great. The other is the Battle of Eben-ezer which I think is the one you refer to as it shows a number of soldiers fighting with swords. These could be Romans or something else. I think the paintings are dated to the period of Roman occupation.
Whether they could be taken as representing something that would apply to a Palmyran army might be debatable, but an option for a few local swordsmen could well be argued I suspect.
thank you, yes maybe romans, yet the shields are completely different and not at all roman style.
That shape was used by Roman cavalry.
