Good Afternoon. I have a new query for the Forum.
My wife and I are in the beginning of a game. This is her first time gaming MeG. She fields a Mid Republican Roman army versus my Pyrrhic army. She declared a charge with her Shoot and Charge cavalry against my Greek Shoot and Charge cavalry. The charge started five (5) base-widths apart. I did not declare a counter charge as I am under the impression you do not fight in this instance. I know this seems wrong, but that seems to be the wording in the book.
My questions are as follows:
1). Can one shoot when the charge occurs outside the base-width distance for javelins (2)?
2). Same as above except in a counter charge move?
3). Does one fight if counter charging?
Shoot and Charge you must be within shooting range to shoot. So at 5 BW you do not shoot.
Countercharging troops cannot shoot and charge A countercharge is simply a move that changes where the combat occurs. It doesn't change anything else. (I think your question suggests a misunderstanding somewhere, but I am not quite sure what the misunderstanding is).

Thank you for the clarification.
Respectfully,
Peter.
A countercharge moves you towards the enemy without contacting them, so you might form the impression that this means you don't fight.
However, the enemy charge takes place after the countercharge and this will contact your unit. Then everybody fights.
