Pondering new armies to buy in 2019 and wondered waht others may be thinking about doing. Whole new armies rather than additional bits to expand existsing ones.
I've already bought the lead for a 7th Crusade army which will be painted early in the new year, and am also thinking about a Chinese army and maybe a "biblical" one as well - although which Chinese and which "biblical" is rather up for grabs.
Same as you, I want to build an army I never used. It will be an ottoman army and possibly usable also in ReG with few adjustments. The other project is to go for a Carolingian army from Baueda, it will be a real challenge to win a tournament with this army.
The main thing on deck is Teutonic Knights in 10mm to face off against my Medieval Poles. I have to add some more knights and cavalry to the Poles and rebase some of the Lithuanians. Then on to the Brothers and their henchmen!

The choice of Chinese may be influenced by the upcoming Lurkio range so hoping for pics of them soon.
I am currently painting Punic War Romans. That will be followed by Vikings. Yorkist War of Roses. Sub Roman Brits. Lurkio Huns and will then probably buy the Sarmation Cavalry from Forged in Battle. So got a fair few on the go.
Honestly, No clue.
But Pendraken are releasing revamped Dacians, Sarmatians and Greeks in the new year...
Waiting for the lists to be finalised. Need to sort an army for Roll Call. Something Eastern. I need to paint my EIR figures I have had for ages. May be I should get them ready for Skullrollers!!
for me my 2019 planning is :
curently painting Macedonian and successor army generic for all of these
then viking army
then late roman army
then probably some barbarian Lombards and such
order of things to come might vary
I'm just finishing Golden Horde and Free Company, then on to Maximilian German and Italian states for some armies that can do double duty in MeG and Reg.
looking for something uncommon likely not to be found easily in our competition but preferably a decently playable one ... any suggestions ?
rather not a copy/paste of your army .... just finishing sino-vietnamies type which had a funny time in Saumur last automn ;D
I am finishing off the first army I started in the early 80"s - Pictish.(with many a diversion along the way). Almost finished the foot with a couple of units to go and then the allies then on to an Orkney Jarls army as I was never able to do this in any other rule system followed by an Early Scots army led by the man himself, MacBeth. After this is either an Ayyubid Egyptian or Ayyubid Syrian States (or maybe both ) followed by a long list of armies that interest me although the Ayyubids are where the figures run out.
I am going to give my Aztecs a run out this year. Probably taking them to Historicon.
Also Byzantines which have been a long term favourite but not much good for decades. Taking my Lurkio Nikephorians over to the IWC in Belgium.
Taking Parthians to Australia in March as requested.
And my Biblicals are coming out. NKE and Assyrians ready to be based. Not sure which comp they will be for.
Huns for Britcon.
And I have a 28mm WoR on the go for a big 28mm game down here.

Well, I will adjust my existing armies with the new budget.
I gave a first trial to my Mayans last Friday. I will paint the missing 90minis to reach the 10k
Next adjustment will follow (Hellenistics, late romans, Indians, normans, Egyptians, and burguignon for sure with the late change)
It should keep me busy for a while.
New armies? Something viking + something steppish & maybe some morphing with medieval armies (crusaders ?)
How many month next year?
I'm a bit obsessed with making an Eastern European Early Medieval army work. Painting a load of cav right now. After that it's something Chinese for "MeGalomaniacs 3" and "Roll Call". Probably Song.

The reason something Chinese is on my radar 8)
Just got a large pile of Outpost Burmese in the mail. I may be some time painting.
Give us a song!

I've been sort of looking at Northern Dynasties and 5 Dynasties - a bit different from the usual Chinese choices I think.

Pretty much the same as it was in 2018 really.
Early Lithuanians based and undercoated for Britcon. Thanks Santa!
Never owned a Chinese army before. Just received my order of beautiful Khurasan Miniature figures. I'm hoping they will look spectacular on the table.
I really must make a decision on which Chinese to do.
