Title: Overhead shooting
Post by: skb777 on October 05, 2023, 01:18:09 AM
Can a SuG shoot over another unit if they are in front base to rear base contact with another friendly unit? Would this them make them part of the same UG?

UG in base to base contact with a friendly UG remain separate UGs.

I think the rules wording adequately answers the first part of your question:

"Files on higher ground may shoot over up to 2 ranks of friends, even if a different UG, if they are higher up a slope and at least 1BW behind those friends."

There must be at least 1 BW between shooters (who must be on higher ground) and friends.

Catapults and bolt shooters can shoot over friends without being on higher ground and there is no gap between them and friends mentioned in that case.

Damn, I wasn't sure I interpreted what 'part of the same UG' was.

So there is no way SuG's can support another Unit once it is in combat unless specified in an army list?

A SuG could be a supporting file if it is on the flank of a TuG.  Otherwise no.

Not quite sure what you think might be specified in an army list.  No army lists allow SuGs to support TuGs in combat.

Not having read each and every army lit I wouldn't know. But I was referring to light infantry being able to integrate, cav in particular, and support during combat.

Nay bother, if it's not allowed it's not allowed.

Where it happened and it is deemed significant enough to justify it, the relevant troops get a characteristic in their list which gives a combat claim.

Each file shooting gets 1 die.

Number of bases in the file can affect the colour of the die.
