As there seems to be a bit of discussion across a range of lists and troop types I thought I'd add my two bob's worth. Would it be an idea to consider Pagan elephants Average, Tribal Loose but with Skilled bows given the number of archers involved? They are, for the most part, Superior now, but I wonder if that reflects where their strength lay? Interested to hear what people think. Was it in quality or in quantity? In this sense the Skilled would reflect the volume of fire rather than the individual ability but as they say, "quantity has a quality all of its own".
You could always downgrade them to average, which may be a good idea as superior elephants are incredibly expensive.
Don't know about the skilled shooter. Would certainly help differentiate them from other elephants. I suppose the question would be, was their shooting actually better than that of foot archers on the same frontage. Were the elephant crews better trained, equipped, supplied with arrows, etc.
