Title: Multiple combats
Post by: Andy Cole on May 24, 2023, 09:00:41 AM
Hope you can help with this question which arose in a Maximus game yesterday.
A and B and C and D came into contact during the charge phase.
As I understand it the files in B&C marked with an X will not be engaged during fighting in stage 5 (either directly or as a supporting file.)
Can they use turn to face each other, either in the movement stage  (M9) or using MF2 in there fighting phase, to create a new combat allowing B to fight both A&C and C to fight both B&D in subsequent rounds of combat?

This is correct.

M9 cannot be used as that is a move for the whole UG (and is not allowed to an UG in frontal combat anyway). MF2 cannot be used as the files have no enemy in frontal contact with their flank/rear.

To bring the files marked X into combat MF 2 A and/or D would need to make MF2 moves to fight supporting files (i.e. the centre fles of B and C) at which point the files X would be supporting files and would contribute. Further MF2 moves could bring them into frontal combat.

Hope that makes sense as an explanation.
