Title: Pushing the bounds on MF1
Post by: LawrenceG on April 21, 2023, 02:15:55 PM
With MF1 can you:

Move a base into the second rank of a file that already has 2 ranks, with the original 2nd rank base becoming the new 3rd rank? (useful in mixed TUGs)

Move a base of TUG A to form a 2nd rank behind a front rank base of an adjacent UG B? (so if the front rank dies, TuG A will take over fighting).

Neither situation is explicitly covered in the rules.

As an umpire:

1. Would I allow a rank to be created in the middle (or indeed the front) rather than at the rear of the file? - Hmmm, not sure.    One to discuss with Simon and consider for the clarifications.
2. Can you add a rank to a file of another TuG.  This is a definite no.

As a MF1 is described as  'move unengaged bases to a single different file' , as written on QRS, wouldn't that preclude the situation described? You are moving two bases but 1 is remaining in the same file.

It took me some thought, but I see your point.  Only the bases in different files can be moved, not the base in the file they are being moved to.  So the first situation is explicitly covered and not allowed.
