Basing of heavy infantry ( close infantry ) has been changed. The "mandatory" depth is now 2 CM and not 1,5 to 2 cm . It's not a problem in friendly games but discussions might arise during tournaments . So my own solution for Belgian tournaments is simple . First do not rebase . Second either use sabots of the right measurements especially for phalanxes, keilsand , warbands. So just play as if the TUG had the right depth and measure when needed apply the 2 CM depth if needed .Be friendly 🙂
Regards to all
I'm in!
Me as well, payment done.

There has never been a "mandatory" basing for heavy infantry (and certainly not 15mm). The 20mm depth base does make the situation a bit more consistent when UGs are hit in the flank which is no bad thing.

Last time I played in UK it was presented as "mandatory" Ok and the basing convention now is clearly 1/2 BW ( pg. 30 of the introduction to MEG ) so convention is not mandatory ..

You are making up facts. I have never come across a single competition in the UK where this basing has been mandatory.
A convention is not mandatory. (English can be a horribly difficult language at times).
I was told that my basing of my dismounted cats, heavy infantry 1,5 cm deep was illegal ....that the "new" basing was 2 cm deep. English is not my mother language but still that was clear enough . OK I did not check with you or Nik as I trusted the friendly oplayer
But now I also know that if someone comes with 3 cm deep chariots it's also legal 8) but that might be rather surprising unless 10 mm 8) still legal OK it's a joke ...
Now what do you do when the opponent has some 5 CM deep chariots as it fits the model better ? You count max 4 cm or is the consensus to say 5 cm is your choice so be it ? Just to have the same attitude everywhere !
I don't know who told you a 1.5 cm base depth for dismounted cataphracts was illegal but I am certain it wouldn't have been Simon, Nik or myself.
Please remember the purpose is to have fun, not to worry how deep the bases are.

Indeed. In fact it has not been unusual to see "legacy" basing for some troops at UK MeG comps - we don't stress about this 8)
