Title: Shooting at countercharge/intercept
Post by: LawrenceG on January 25, 2023, 03:22:21 PM
Does shooting at countercharge/intercept take place in SP2.4 (if so, it's not in the QRS sequence) before they move, or in SP2.5 after they have moved (if so, I assume it is too late to slow their countercharge/intercept move, but it could slow their pursuit if they break their opponent this turn) ?

The latter.

The latter.

Then 5.K.7.5 is one for the errata (needs deleting).

Could also do with some clarification on what happens if the countercharge/intercept started or passed within 1 BW of shooters during its move, but ended over 1 BW from them.

Ah, missed that - I'll claim it has happened so infrequently as an excuse  ;)

I may well reverse my decision on the advice of the 3rd umpire review  8)

Would be useful to slip shooting at counterchargers/intercepts into 2.4 on the QRS then - especially as there is space  ;D

That'd work in exactly the same way as if they were chargers doing that.

To be fair, it mostly occurs in the rules as "shoot at counterchargers etc  that have moved within 1 BW", i.e. phrased as if shooting is after the move.

Would be worth extending the definition of "Path of charge" to include the path of troops making a countercharge or intercept if you go with this sequence.

OTOH the simplification of going with your original sequence may be a benefit, as we are up to 4 separate shooting phases now. (Shoot and charge, shoot at counter/intercept, shoot at chargers, shoot).
