i have a question about something I've never been sure I've been playing correctly. How do people play upgrading MF moves?
I have a regular opponent who contends that as long as a general is with the UG then that general can use his upgrade to move bases of that UG around using MF moves as required without having to have either started with the actual base(s) being moved or move with them.
His reasoning is that the general is with the UG already so is close enough to the action to use the upgrade and order bases around on the same basis that if, for example, a general is upgrading an action for an UG to do an M7 Expand while stationary move the general wouldn't necessarily have to move with the bases actually expanding.
The rules state that the general should start with the 'forces' being moved (Sec 2G 1.1) but this could be interpreted as an individual base or just being with the UG ("forces" not being a defined term in the Glossary), hence my question.
Additionally would it change anything if a general was fighting in the front rank? i.e. Could the general still upgrade? If so would the general have to move with the moving base(s) to the new engaged file?
He is correct. As long as the general is with the unit, his upgrade (once per phase) can apply to any action by the UG. Fighting in the front rank makes no difference.
