RJC has kindly provided this quick summary of the major differences between Magna and Maximus for those of us new to Magna.
MEG MAGNA
1. MeG Magna is a variant which requires a smaller number of models. It is suitable for playing with 25 or 28mm figures on a 180cm x 120 cm table.
2. All the rules for MeG Maximus apply with the following exceptions:
2.1 Terrain sizes and terrain placement rules are 2/3rds the size in MeG Maximus. The flank zone for deploying terrain is also reduced to 2/3rds the size in MeG Maximus.
2.2 UG sizes are reduced. See the MeG Army Lists for details, but typically UGs in 4 or 6's become 4's, UG's in 6 or 8's become 4's and UG's in 6, 8 or 9's become 4 or 6's.
2.3 Skirmishers shoot at full effect with 2 ranks and reduced effect with 1 rank instead of the Maximus 3 and 2.
2.4 KaB tests on UGs:
* Poor troops roll a Yellow dice.
* Average troops roll a Green dice.
* Superior and Exceptional troops roll a White dice.
* Battlewagons and Elephants roll a White dice.
2.5 Pikes charge combat preferred claims are as LSp factors then +1 if in 3 ranks.
2.6 Professional generals will have a command range of 7 BW, and instinctive generals a command range of 5BW. The range for floating generals will reduce from 15BW to 10BW.
Note: A base width in 25mm games is 60mm. The terrain placement change for 25mm games in Magna results in terrain sizes being the same as for 15mm games in Maximus. The KaB tests is a rule change being introduced with the PDF edition.
BHGS site still says
Mortem et Gloriam 15mm - 10,000 points, themed
That is because they have just rolled over last year's stuff - it'll be updated for when the tickets are on sale I am sure.
Yep, it's being updated as we speak
Just waiting to for full info from the theme organiser about game times, list checkers, umpires etc ;)
That idiot'll take ages to sort that out :o
Or not.
2023 details added above and sent to BHGS.
Fast service
Now I got to start painting my army
If we are to try a Magna experiment then I would suggest a three game saturday and two game sunday event.
Although there is a similar number of units they are smaller, take less time to move and involve fewer dice rolls.
In my experience the games will be much quicker and as most of the players will be seasoned Maximus players then 2 and a quarter hours should be ample.
Lance.
Seems to be a reasonably common view.
Could make the timings?
Saturday:
Game 1: 09:30 – 11:30
Game 2: 12:00 – 14:30
Game 3: 15:00 – 17:30
Sunday:
Game 4: 9:30 - 12:00
Game 5: 13:00 – 15:30
Any reason for not starting at 9:15 on Saturday? Would allow an extra 15 minutes for lunch...
Should say 9:00 start anyway for a 2.5 hour game finishing at 11:30 :P
Updated
To a 5 round competition.
Saturday:
Game 1: 09:00 – 11:30
Game 2: 12:00 – 14:30
Game 3: 15:00 – 17:30
Sunday:
Game 4: 9:30 - 12:00
Game 5: 13:00 – 15:30
Tickets now available from the BHGS - https://www.bhgs.org.uk/roll-call---competitor-entry-information.html
Booked in and busy refurbishing and basing figures!

RJC has notified me of one change that was missed out in the earlier post regarding general's command distances. This has been added to the first post above.
Command Range
In the PDF edition, professional generals will have a command range of 7 BW, and instinctive generals a command range of 5BW. The range for floating generals will reduce from 15BW to 10BW.
Hi
Just wondered if 8k isnt too many points for this? Ive only played one game but that was 7k and that seemed busy. Has 8k been play tested? Just wondering as wouldnt it limit armies a bit?
Asking for a friend
:D
Just seen thats its April so too late to change anyway I guess
Roll Call 28mm MeG Magna is now sold out.
However, there are a small number of "Add yourself to Waitlist (all "sold out" periods)" tickets available on the BHGS website. These cost nothing to register for and are used to allocate any remaining space on a first come first served basis.
https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/roll-call-2023-april-1st2nd-cranfield-tickets-474003827207?aff=BHGSNews
Therefore, if you are interested in attending for the MeG comp book one of these ASAP.
For those interested in 28mm Magna but unable to play at Roll Call a reminder that there is another Magna comp in the calendar for 24th/25th June - https://mortem-et-gloriam.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=2794.0
Looks like the BHGS have reviewed the numbers at Roll Call and there are now 13 of the "Waitlist" tickets available at the time I write this.

Yep, schoolboy error. We'd set the overall event capacity to be, erm, "the capacity of the venue" without realising that any "Waitlist" tickets that were reserved would then be included as part of the overall capacity. Thats now been tweaked 8)
There's an essentially unlimited number of Waitlist tickets - but of course they only get released if registered players drop out, so only a handful will get released in reality.
Currently there's one wannabe MeG player on the Waitlist.

List in and approved!
More Roll Call related PSA.
Player numbers at Roll Call are thankfully even, however, it would be really really useful if there was somebody out there who could act as a "last minute standby" in case we have a last minute drop out leaving us with an odd number of players and thus, the dreaded bye ...
If anyone could do this it would be great - and also free (if the BHGS needed paying I'll cover it as a thank you). If necessary I am sure we can sort a loan army out if one is needed.
In addition to asking for last minute cover the BHGS tell me that they can still accommodate 2 MeG players due to unavoidable drop-outs. So if there are 2 people out there who find they can definitely (and I mean definitely) play it should be possible to sort tickets. Please let me know ASAP if you find yourself available - nikgaukroger@blueyonder.co.uk
I do, however, think the "drop-out cover" is more important than the 2 places.

NB Simon Stokes has stepped in to be cover should we be odd numbers (which we currently are) and can play at short notice. However, he cannot make the first game on Saturday; should he be required I will take the bye in the first game if we are uneven.
Many thanks to Simon for this 8) 8) 8)
