a query left over from last night, whilst fighting two Hoplite Tugs of 6 on the left flank, i managed to get round their flank :) they then formed Orb to protect the flank i had just forced, :-\
The Hoplite command had two Tugs of long spear and three Sugs of Light cavalry, equally spaced, so "Sug..Tug(orb)..Sug..Tug(Orb)..Sug" who then proceeded to march into broken ground.
so two question;-
1. can an Orb drag a Sug? cavalry or other wise
2. if so can with a competent general, as the troop types are mixed can the Orbs and Sugs move as a block? i.e two Orbs and a Sug move as a block and the outside sugs are dragged??
We allowed it in the game because i couldn't find anything specifically prohibiting it. but wanted to clarify
Do not have rules to hand, but I thought a infantry TuG could only drag a foot SuG
I am intereted in the answer . In recent games we ruled that
1) the block had to be continuous chain of TUGs
2) any SUGs might be attached from outside , each TUG draging one Sug .
but we did not allow the alternate TUG1 / SUG / TUG2 / SUG / TUG3 / SUG ... needed SUG / TUG1 / TUG2 /TUG3 /SUG wth occasionaly a SUG attached in front or behind TUG2.

Any TUG can pull/push any SUG other than Artillery.

1. No - to pull/push a SUG
all the bases in both the TUG and SUG must be facing in the same direction - Orb requires you to have bases facing in different directions.

A block need not just be TUGs, it is several UGs in partial edge contact with each other so can be a mix. Page 105 E defines.

The TUGs in a block can each pull/push a SUG. So, for example, you could have SUG/TUG/SUG/TUG/SUG with the 3 centre UGs being the block (Comp general or better of course needed) with the 2 outer SUGs being pulled by the TUGs they are in contact with.
ahh ok, interesting, so if it was just two Tugs in Orb, all facing the same way (outwards) could move as a Block?
The Orb rules require you to reverse the rear rank of the unit to represent being in Orb, therefore, it cannot meet the requirement of having all the bases facing in the same direction as the rear rank will face a different direction to the other rank(s).
